Hello people!
First of all, want to thank you for this great mod which is being featured in a LOT of PC sites.
Second, my PC setup:
Intel Core i7 930 @4.1 Ghz
Corsair XMS3 DDR3 6GBs
Zotac GTX 570 1280MB with 295.51 drivers.
Patch 1.0.4.0 correctly installed
No MSI Afterburner
Now, I have an issue that I'm "curious" to know an answer. I've been using this mod since 1.2 and I've watched lots of videos around,
FXAA (stock installation):
When installing as it is, and I'm saying just drag and drop from the compressed file, the game plays normally as intended. The borders of most things, however, are with jaggies and the typical non-AA object, but the game runs smoothly between 30 and even 55FPS sometimes. Game resolution is set to 1280x720, but I always change it in-game to 1360x768 (can't play higher or the screen is like over the limits of the space and you can't see some stuff).
SMAA (stock installation):
Just editing the iceconfig and using the SMAA NOT ALTERING ANY OTHER VALUE, the borders are still a little bit jagged and sometimes it is too noticeable. Still manages to run very smooth between 30-50 FPS, but you feel there's NO AA still. You can change in-game resolution without problems.
Here comes the issue
Now, if I head to iceconfig.ini and I edit the folowing values:
ForceDisplaySize=TRUE
ForceAntiAliasing=TRUE
AntialiasingQuality=1
DisplayWidth=1360
DisplayHeight=768
Here is what happens...
FXAA (modified ini with the previous entries)
The game, apart for the resolution to be doubled (2XXX by 18XX), shows a very blurry softening of the image, it's kinda uncomfortable to see the background and the horizon, it feels like it's way too soft, tending to blur way too much, like no "crisp" in the image. Frame rate drops radically between 19-35 FPS, but the image is absent from jagged borders. Unable to change the resolution in-game.
SMAA (modified ini with the previous entries)
Here happens something curious: While the image is with evident AA, the image is less blurred, but still you can "feel" the blurryness of the image, not as much when using the FXAA, but still it is noticeable at some point. Frames are almost the same as the FXAA with editing, however it has it's smooth moments.
If I delete the option.txt the FXAA acts a little bit strange. It still shows the borders jagged but the frames drops to 20-30 FPS most of the time.
I hope you can enlight me here, I don't know if the youtube videos somehow "hide" the jagged borders or "softs" the stock installation, But I'm seeing most of the guys with my setup running the game smoothly but with some "evident" AA, not sure if as I mentioned before it's the youtube video or I don't know, but I'm curious to know what I may be doing wrong.
Thanks for any help!
EDIT: I'm going to be adding pictures as soon as possible.
PICS:
