Current:
AMD Phenom 9750 Quad-core 2.4 GHz 8GB ddr2 750 gb 7200 rpm SATA hard drive GTX 560 Ti SC 1gb ddr5 (runs pretty hot from relatively small case 80 C while playing GTA IV, fan freaks out constantly)
Upgrading my case, processor, maybe the ram, and might try out a liquid cooling system.
Just wondering if I should hop back into intel, which would involve a new mb, or stick with amd.
Also, what should I upgrade to? I'd be interested in something in the mid-upper price range that would be suitable to game with for at least 2 years before requiring an upgrade.

How long shoud the new PC be used, 3 years or more/less? And how much money you have for the new PC?
I recommend these parts here: (should be good for next few years)
ASRock P67 Pro3 Intel i5 2400 4x3,1GHz boxed TeamGroup Elite - Memory - 8 GB Graphics Card is still good. Cougar A Series 450W (don't know about that... maybe a different will do, too)

I'm not rich and would prefer to keep it in the $700-1000 range (all together). currently have a 750 or 850W psu so I'm good there.

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K Case:Cooler Master 330 Elite Black Almost doubles the cubic inches in my current case... Dam. ASRock P67 Pro3 Core i5 2500K Cooler Master 330 Elite Black TeamGroup Elite - Memory - 2x 4GB (Most people tend to promote corsair, is there much[if any] difference between the 2?) Side note, never bought + built my own pc, assuming I stick with my current optical drive, 750 gb 7200 rpm sata hard drive, and gpu would I need anything else (also assuming I buy the above listed ram, case, processor, and MB)?

Just changed from an AMD Setup myself because GTA ran poorly. I was looking at the i7 2600K and found out it simply wasn't worth it.
Best setup for cash at the moment seems to be something along the lines of what I went for which is
i5 2500K P67 Sabretooth motherboard 8GB DDR3 (I went with Corsair Vengance 1600mhz) and a GTX 570
I can tell you for certain this runs mine on full graphics at 1080P and I'm very impressed, it performs much better than my AMD setup which had far more graphical horsepower!

Looked at the i7 2600k, for $80 more you get 100MHz and 2mb L3 cache (I've been told the L3 cache is very important for gaming) Is that not worth it? P67 Sabretooth motherboard vs ASRock P67 Pro3? The only major differences I see are SATA 6.0 instead of 3.0, and thermal armor, which I've never even heard of.

The Sabertooth only costs more and has nothing special. forget about it. SATA 6.0 is only marketing, the data speed is limited by the writing speed of the Hard Drive. SATA 3.0 can't even use the full power. The 2600k is senseless. the 2500k has only 100MHz less and no hyperthreating (HT). you can't see a difference in games and the 2500k has 6MB L3 Cache too^^ corsair is good, but there is no performance gain with 1600MHZ compared to 1333MHz and it is only more expensive. now buying a 570?? He already has a 560TI why upgrade and buying a 570 is very bad. a 560TI 448 cores has only 5-10% less performance and is A LOT cheaper. with small OC both cards (570+560ti448cores) have the same power. 750W PSU is great ;D Hope that explains some stuff... about the money... i live in germany and we have EURO so don't know about the prices in Dollar. :/ Edit: That case... i don't think it's good. it only has one 80mm fan, so it will get very hot in there. take a look at one of these: Thermaltake V3 Thermaltake V4 Black Edition Sharkoon T28 blue/red/green do you want to overclock in the future? then you need a better cooler than the stock.

Also, I think cjra was stating a good performance - good price system, or at least what he went with. The SATA 6/3 isn't really a concern for me, I have about 16gb of family pics/old files/music/game trailers backed up on a couple of flashdrives. Anyway thinking about the backup brought up another question... When I transfer everything over to the new case, connect the new mb, processor, ram, etc etc. I'm assuming I cant just plug in the old hard drive filled with crap and the os and begin interwebbing/gaming. Am I going to have to wipe the drive, and reinstall everything along with whatever new software? Edit: probably no on the OCing the processor, maybe far into the future, definitely not within a year though... Argh gotta get this essay done.

But i think it's safer to make a backup and then reinstall everything. The new board etc. needs new drivers and i don't know if the drivers from the old hardware make some problems. If you don't want to overclock in the near future the stock cooler is enough by the way: When i put my "new" pc together last year it took me about 3 month to get the best parts together. ^^

-snip- -snip- by the way: When i put my "new" pc together last year it took me about 3 month to get the best parts together. ^^ 3 months.. waiting for deals on the parts or bad shipping or something else? Also, been looking at cases, I'm assuming a Full tower is a bit overkill? I'm kinda tempted though, as I might just use the same case and upgrade parts every 2-4 years, maybe try out a liquid cooling system once I get out of college. www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4146085&CatId=1510#Definitely wont have to worry about space limitation, airflow, or lack of fans. ^.^

halomaster07i waited for the new sandy bridge, then there was this SATA Bug with the SATA 6.0 slots and I waited for the new revision of the boards. And i waited for the gtx580 3GB to be availible^^ The HAF is a really, really nice case. If you want liquid cooling later that this is a nice choice with enough spacefor everything needed. Is that the shop you want to buy? verbalartisticthanks mate =) If anyone needs help with a new computer or upgrading i can help

If so, I'd probably be more likely to use newegg or amazon. This whole thing probably wont end up going down until summer, when I can get some extra cash to spend. ^.^
