Hm. I can't help you with car packs.... but I know that most carpacks are bad, may it because of bad handling parameters, bad textures or bad vehicles.ide parameters (turismo's and lambo's everywhere, even in ghetto-parts of the city). I suggest replacing only a few cars manually with the cars you like .

+1 to the above, don't install cars that have a large filesize as you will end up with the taxi bug. I stick to cars no bigger than 3mb in size for both .wtf and .wtd files, got around 10 installed and no taxi bug. Gtainside has a huge selection of cars and mods.

downloaded realistic cars mod pack v4, crashes on my pc during startup. managed to fix the issues but when i tried adding some cars, it started to crash again. too much crashes, give up.
downloaded ultimate_vehicle_pack_v8 - simply the easiest car mod pack installer out there. love the one stop install. BUT i hate the annihilator (no minigun), also hate some of the cars look. i also hate the fact that it doesnt have vehicle list of modified cars. i ended up with duplicate cars.
now im back to the original mod, and slowly modifying some of the cars i only like. you could start on ultimate_vehicle_pack_v8 and modify the cars you dont like if you want.

I had only problems with every carpack i installed. Now i replaced about 50 (?) cars manually and it works perfect. For manual install i use this tool here: www.gtainside.com/download.php?do=cat&id=326Takes less than 1minute to install a car.

You can replace it. The sound would be different though. He had it replacing the feltzer, so he thought the sound from the bmw matched with it. If you replace another car the sound will be different or the same as the stock vehicle.
So yes you can replace different cars, and you could also get sound mods for each car as well from Gta inside or whatever.

Maybe we should start a thread of confirmed "Good" cars with good handling?
I spent hour and hours manually adding cars, only to find one would break something. Then I'd have to re-install GTA4 make a backup and then install them one at a time backing them up as I went.
It'd be better if there was a list of confirmed working cars? Should we start a thread?

hm... No need to make a thread for that imo.
Why do you have to reinstall IV just because cars or anything else f*cked up?
Just make a backup of the cars you wanna replace first, backup carcols.dat, vehicles.ide and handling.dat if needed.
Tip: Install only one car at a time, and start the game right after installation of the car. Like this you won't have such problems finding the car that caused problems...

does anyone know why this keeps happening? I used this vehicle mod installer and sometimes it replaces 5 files but sometimes just 1. how do I know whether the car is "well done" or not? I tried many fixes but nothing helped. so I guess I gotta use the backupfiles again?
is there any safe way to install the cars?

I've read some things stating that some packs "Add vehicles" meaning they don't replace other vehicles? What are the sounds of the cars included in? what type of file/where in the gta iv folder? and finally, when you add a vehicle do you have to modify any trainer that is installed in order to have the car listed if the vehicle is "added" and not replacing another vehicle?
