It seems that 1.0.7.0 (according to most people I talk to is not good for modding so I downgraded. After hours of nearly wanting to throw my keyboard through my screen I ask... WTF IS WRONG WITH 1.0.4.0??? It will not work. I installed a clean install of 1.0.7.0 (steam). Followed the downgrade instructions. Run patch? it dies. Download alternative "archive" and merge. Run the RGSC tools? it dies. Download alternative "archive" and merge. Run game. Rockstar log-in pops up as always. log in. Another rockstar thing pops up, scroll down, click accept. Rockstar games window pops up asking if I want to "link my gamertag" A small launcher window with PLAY pops up. Click PLAY The first rockstar log in pops up again. Log in (again) game loads up with GFWL on top and theres no mouse and the keyboard does nothing (except ALT-CRTL-DEL). Game continues to load through the rockstar images at a retardedly low resolution then screen goes black (behind the GFWL overlay that I cant get rid of).
What am I supposed to do?

Right I pulled up my old cracked version from before I purchased the game through steam. Installed it, downloaded the patches up to 1.0.4.0 but then got stuck without a valid crack. Was hoping I could just log into R* and GFWL and it would validate it as legit and let me play. Securom killed off that idea.
Back to the drawing board.

That's strange. Altho I can't help you downgrade, never had to. You can just download the game patched 1.0.0.0 and just install patch 1.0.4. That's how I do it and it works. Always.

If you aren't playing on the steam version anymore, i suggest patch it to 1.0.4.0 after installation like kristiannn said & installing xliveless (Copy & paste both xlive.dll & xlive_dll into the main GTA IV root folder. Note: GFWL will be disabled by xliveless, anyway you can't play Multiplayer or anything similiar based on GFWL on 10.4.0.

The problem is that the non-steam version I have only has the cracks for 1.0.0.0 so if I install it and patch it I can't play due to securom.
And the steam version I can't get working after I downgrade.
I did manage to get a copy working for a bit. After about 3hrs this is where I got to: I installed the non steam copy. Cracked it. Patched it up to 1.0.4.0 (each patch one at a time (1.0.1.0, 1.0.2.0... etc) Copied over the 1.0.7.0 steam version. Copied in the downgrade files for steam 1.0.4.0 Copied in the RSGSC for steam downgrade. Copied in the iCEnhancer 2.1 for 1.0.4.0 Copied in the xlive files. Copied in scripthook for 1.0.4.0 Copied in Alexander asi loader The game loads up and runs for about 3mins before it dies. Doesn't require steam running. Doesn't look anything like the 1.0.7.0 that I had running which had beautiful reflections. It basicly looks like the default GTA4 with slightly better reflections (if you look at cars closely enough). The 1.0.7.0 version I could see the detail in the buildings in the reflection.
This has to be the hardest mod in the world to install. Only thing I can think of next is try the non steam patched up to 1.0.4.0 and try to find some 1.0.4.0 cracks which is a nightmare. Any other suggestions?

I have the steam version and I see that you have that one as well, I will tell you how I got it to patch 1.0.4.0 -
1. Delete the Grand Theft Auto IV folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common
2. Right click on GTAIV in the steam library and select "Delete Local Content"
3. After you delete the local content from there, click install to start installing it again. When it is done, do not start it yet.
4. Download patch 1.0.4.0 and if you try to use it, it will give you an error like "Rockstar social club not detected" or something of the sort. The next step is for you to launch GTAIV off of steam but do not hit Play. Rockstar social club thing will pop up, do not hit play and instead close that out.
5. Go back to patch 1.0.4.0 and try to install it again, it will go through this time. Your game should be patch 1.0.4.0 after that.
That is exactly what I did earlier this week so I hope it works for you as well.

Hope this works bandwidth is expensive. I'll try it now.
*EDIT* Speed is floating between 8hrs and a week to download. Maybe I can just grab the folder from a mate? Its only 10mins to drive to his house.

Ok got the game running on 1.0.4.0 but having issues once again iCEnhancer makes the colours intense but no reflection detail. Game crashes after about 2-3mins. Next suggestion?

Tell us what resolution you are running on and go to pastie.org and paste your iceconfig.ini file into that and link it here.

The same issue you're having just hit me. I just started up my GTAIV to play and no reflections, looks ilovepoopty, then crashed to desktop saying my video memory is too low or something. I never changed anything either...I restarted my computer and still the same issue.
What the imdumb is going on?

I just started a new game (and saved over my old save) and it seems to be working fine (except the colours are super vibrant). The reflections are a lot nicer than vanilla but are still lacking compared to what they were on 1.0.7.0. Havent hit nighttime yet so idk what it will be like then.
