Right now I have an AMD Phenom II x4 955 non-BE @ 3.2Ghz. With my passive cooler I can easily overclock it to 3.7Ghz with reasonable temps. Although I'm looking for a better one since I think it's bottlenecking my HD 7850 and I'd like more fps with iCEnhancer . The AMD FX-4170 Black Edition looks like a nice upgrade, is this a wise decision? If so, would my motherboard support it? It has a AM3 socket but the AMD FX-4170 Black Edition is a AM3+ processor. Would it even fit? System specs: AMD Phenom II x4 955 @3.7Ghz 6GB Kingston Memory Radeon HD7850 OC Edition (2GB) M4A88TV-EVO Motherboard OCZ StealthXStream II 600W PSU 500GB S-ata2 7200RPM Hard Disk Running Windows 7 64 bit

stay with the x4, the FX Processors can only be used with an AM3+ Board and with buying an FX you will only loose performance. These processors are really bad for gaming. For GTA Nvidia is always better than AMD, because the amd's have a lot of performance problems in gta. with nvidia you will get about 10fps more with an card that has the same price as a comparable amd. just stay with your system. it should run good in 90% of the games. you need to upgrade in 2 years again

Awesome thanks! Although I still want an upgrade . I indeed run most games well but I have some money to spend and want higher performance . I actually want to stick to AMD, is there a processor I should look forward to? I upgraded my GPU just recently so don't really want to touch that.

The only reasonable thing you can do is OC your Processor (i think that's the one you have). If you buy a good CPU Cooler you can OC to 4GHz and games should run quite better than. Buying a completely new CPU would be a waste of money in my opinion.

just saw you have ne NON-BE edition If you can sell you CPU then you can look for this one: www.amazon.com/AMD-Phenom-3-4Ghz-512KB-4000MHZ/dp/B002SRQ214/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1342613038&sr=1-1&keywords=am3+amd+cpu+x4OC to 4GHz and games should run fine again. 965 and 955 (stock) compared [a href="http://ht4u.net/reviews/2011/amd_fx_6100_4100_review/index30.php?dummy=&advancedFilter=false&prod[]=AMD+Phenom+II+X4+955+[3%2C2+GHz%2C+4+Kerne]&prod[]=AMD+Phenom+II+X4+965+[3%2C4+GHz%2C+4+Kerne]"]http://ht4u.net/reviews/2011/amd_fx_6100_4100_review/index30.php?dummy=&advancedFilter=false&prod[]=AMD+Phenom+II+X4+955+[3%2C2+GHz%2C+4+Kerne]&prod[]=AMD+Phenom+II+X4+965+[3%2C4+GHz%2C+4+Kerne][/a]

Would that be worth it? Shouldn't I go for 980 or something? 955 to 965 seems such a small upgrade.

well if you have the money you can buy an 980 as well..
but if you want to spent that much money you could change to intel with an Intel Core i5-2320 + cheap motherboard and get 20% more performance for almost the same money^^

Intel is really getting on my nerves xD I wanted to avoid changing mobo but it seems like the best option for me right now. What mobo should I get? My budget is around 300 euro's for mobo + processor but don't want to spend more than necessary
